Young Langa tradition: old roots, new passion.

About Us

Bricco Ciarla: a journey between past and present

We are Matteo and Massimo, two friends linked by a childhood spent among the vineyards. Our story is a tribute to the generations that have preceded us and a commitment to promoting the winegrowing heritage of the Langhe.
The winery was purchased in 1962 by Giacomo Marcarino (Massimo’s grandfather) from the Chiarla family (Ciarla in Piedmontese dialect). Being located on a “bricco”, which is the top of a hill, we chose the name Bricco Ciarla.
With respect for tradition and a heart that is always open to new challenges, we make wines that tell the story of our terroir and our emotions.

Vineyards

We cultivate approximately five hectares of vineyards between the municipalities of Treiso and Neviglie, in the Barbaresco production zone.
Our style in the vineyard is conventional, and we limit chemical treatment of the vines as much as possible. We have been working on the composition of the soil for over a decade, with organic fertilisation, so that the vines are able to absorb all the nutrients in the soil, which are responsible for the aromatic complexity that develops in the glass.

Winery

The style in the cellar is classic-traditional, with submerged cap maceration and natural fermentation with only organic matter for the development of the yeasts naturally present on the skins. All fermentations take place in concrete and steel tanks at a controlled temperature ranging from 22° to 28°C. The time varies depending on the type of wine. The wines then mature in large French and Austrian oak barrels, favouring the expression of the terroir of origin.

Territory

The Langhe: a terroir of excellence.

Our vineyards are located in Treiso, one of the four municipalities within the Barbaresco production zone. Limestone soils and ideal exposures allow us to obtain grapes of the highest quality. Each Bricco Ciarla wine is an authentic expression of this unique terroir, characterised by complexity and depth.
